A THOUGHT FOR THE DAY by Given O. Blakely ____________________________________________________________ THE POSITION OF THE WORD OF GOD IN THE DIVINE ECONOMY The Seed of the Kingdom Perhaps you recall the parable of the sower. The people to whom it was spoken did not understand it. However, His disciples earnestly wanted to know its meaning. Jesus provided them an understanding of the mysterious saying. His explanation is meant for everyone that has received "the love of the truth" (2 Thess 2:10). In His explanation, Jesus defined the source of life--the seed that was sown. "Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God." The source of understanding There is no valid understanding unrelated directly and effectually to Scripture. If God did not SAY it, it cannot produce spiritual life! A comprehension of spiritual realities requires an understanding of God's Word. Notice, the Word is not the tree, but the Seed! It is not the plant, but the Seed! It is the Source of kingdom advance, the means to recovery, and the beginning of response to God. Beautiful stories are not the seed! Cunning and witting presentations are not the seed! If something for God is to grow, what God has said must be declared! Necessary to growth No one develops or grows in the Kingdom without the Word. Spiritual growth cannot be realized independently of the Word of God. It boggles the mind to consider how many deluded souls think they can improve their spiritual life while neglecting God's Word! It is the Seed of the kingdom, and nothing for God grows without it! The depravity of the wisdom of this world At this point, it is important to note the futility of worldly wisdom. God speaks clearly on this subject. Therefore, there is no need for anyone to wonder about these things. "For Christ did not send me to baptize but to proclaim the gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom, so that the cross of Christ might not be emptied of its power. For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, 'I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.' Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, God decided, through the foolishness of our proclamation, to save those who believe" (1 Cor 1:17-21). "And it was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ" (2 Thess 2:14). If the Word of God, particularly the Gospel, is not declared, men will not be inclined to call upon the name of the Lord. When men are not aware of the Word of God, they have no sense of their need for Him. They are not constrained to seek Him, and become content to become swallowed up in the affairs of this world. The church must know that preaching the Word is imperative. It must declare war on intellectual novelties and mental trivia! The Word of God is like a mighty trumpet sound, alerting people to their need of God. (More on this subject tomorrow) KEEP ALERT. THE NEW WORD OF TRUTH WEBSITE IS TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON. In joyful expectation of glory, Given O. Blakely
