DO NOT BECOME WEARY IN WELL DOING!

"So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest-time, if we do not give up." (Galatians 6:9) What an appropriate admonition! Those sowing to the Spirit will reap the harvest from the Spirit--but they must be willing to wait for the "due time." Harvest time, in this sense, is not every day. Here is another one of those conditional clauses--"IF!" When the Spirit says "doing what is right," he includes restoring the one caught in a trespass, bearing our own burdens, and ministering to those that teach us the Word of God. All of these may become wearisome to us, but we must not allow them to do so. Doing "what is right," or "well doing" (KJV), is living in harmony with the Lord. It is walking in the truth, and living by faith in the Holy Spirit. It is laboring together with God (3 John 3; Gal 2:20; Gal 5:16; 1 Cor 3:9). The time is coming when we will be duly recognized by our Lord. Until then, faithfulness and not becoming weary is the business of God's people. This is also a solemn warning concerning the eroding effects of time upon us. Diligence is an imperative! Opportunities are but another view of open doors. When Jesus uses the "key of David" to open door for us (Rev 3:7), it is an "opportunity to do good." When such comes our way, we must not let it pass. It is an opportunity to invest in eternity. Whether it is restoring a fallen one, carrying a personal burden, or sharing of our goods to one that has taught us, it is an "opportunity" to "do good." "All men" are within the field of opportunity, and none are to be excluded. But the EMPHASIS is on the people: "especially to those who belong to the family of believers" (NIV). It is not fashionable to think in this manner. Far too many church people prefer their fleshly families to God's family, or their personal friends to those in Christ Jesus. We can ill-afford to neglect the word "especially those who belong to the family of believers." Only the walk of faith will permit consistency in these areas. Living by the works of the Law will yield no bountiful harvest! Faith, on the other hand, well make the individual sensitive to the will of God. Open doors will be more quickly seen, and a desire to "do good" will more readily dominate the heart. Just as much Kingdom advance comes when these truths are embraced, so an adverse effect is registered upon the work of God when they are not honored. Many a noble work has fallen by the wayside simply because people became "weary in well doing."
