An Approving Conscience Devotion 9 of 11

"For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" (Hebrews 9:14). "Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water" (Hebrews 10:22)

THE HOLY SPIRIT AND YOUR CONSCIENCE

The Holy Spirit works in concert with our conscience. This is a remarkable situation, and worthy of our consideration. Paul alludes to this work in his expression of concern for the Jewish nation. "I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit" (Rom. 9:1). More than the Holy Spirit agreeing with Paul, Paul was in agreement with the Holy Spirit. They were both yearning over the the nation that brought forth the Messiah, and to whom every gift preparatory to the Savior was given (Rom. 9:4-5). It would do well for those that speak derogatorily of Israel to consider this. It is obvious that the Apostle was not grieving or quenching the Holy Spirit. He was sensitive to the Spirit, and thus the Spirit bore witness with His spirit. There is no way to explain this satisfactorily to the unspiritual. Explanation cannot be accomplished academically. It can only be realized by those with a good and approving conscience. To say the least, this is a marvelous benefit available to everyone that is in Christ Jesus.
