THE CURRENT MINISTRY OF JESUS

"Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens" (Heb 7:25-16, NKJV).

Devotion 1 of 11

INTRODUCTION

W hat is the Lord Jesus Christ doing now? Or is He doing anything? Some conceive of Him as pleading daily that God will not destroy us. Others simply cannot conceive of Him as doing anything significant. Such individuals perceive Him present in the affairs of men, but not in any significant way--something like a heavenly Bystander. Still others see Christ as having done everything required for men to be saved and live the godly life. Now, we are on our own, so to speak. These people believe that Jesus did everything significant at the beginning of the "day of salvation." There are two opposing perceptions on this subject. One extreme view says that Jesus is daily intervening in the affairs of men in miraculous ways. These interventions are designed to give us comforts and advantages in this world. Those that embrace this view are basically no different from anyone else. They have merely espoused a position concerning Christ. They do not live in the daily wake of miraculous interventions, but teach that this is possible. The other extreme view perceives Christ as basically inactive in the affairs of men. The possession of the Bible and God-given minds gives us all the advantage we need--at least that is how they see it. We direct our own destiny by simply "believing the Bible," and conducting ourselves accordingly. There are elements of truth in both positions. However, neither of them presents the Lord Jesus Christ in a proper manner. In fact, He is reproached by these extremes, and the individuals embracing them are handicapped by them. Jesus does intervene in the affairs of men. Yet, He is not our servant, nor is the purpose of His current working to bring ease and comfort to us in this world. The purpose of this study is to confirm that our Savior is currently active for our benefit. Furthermore, without His present ministry, there would be no hope of us being saved.
