THE INTERRELATIONSHIPS OF TRUTH

" . . . If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free . . . If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." (John 8:31-36)

INTRODUCTION

Pilate challenged Jesus with the question, "What is truth?" (John 18:38). A weighty question, indeed! Yet, it was not asked in the proper spirit. That is why Jesus did not answer it to Pilate's satisfaction. In the kingdom of God, the Bearer of the truth is the critical factor, together with our love for it. These days,
interest in "the truth," as Jesus used the term, is not very fashionable. People had rather hear of contemporary "issues" than "truth." God has therefore sent them "strong delusion," because of their failure to love the truth.

The idea of "contemporary," or "relevant" issues is dangerously flawed. It assumes an adjustment of real priorities. It also imagines this world to be the preeminent one. Neither conjecture is true. In "things pertaining to God," priorities are not adjusted, and this world is never primary!

All of this is related to our subject, "The interrelationships of truth." The truth of God presupposes certain priorities, and addresses them with consistency. Resources are uncovered by truth that allow the believer to gain the advantage in life. The real enemy is precisely defined, together with the cursed realm, and basic personal deficiencies. There is no need to guess in these matters!

Those who choose to major on "things that are seen," or "the fashion of this world," are not content with the presuppositions of Scripture. They had rather listen to the assessments and diagnoses of those confused by earthly circumstance, than to the "great King over all the earth" (Psa 47:1). To them, psychiatry, sociology, and other related "sciences falsely so called" (1 Tim 6:20) have valid input for the development of basic understanding. But this is not true. God has invalidated the "wisdom of this world" at its apex, rendering it impotent in matters essential to "life and godliness" (1 Cor 1:20; 2:6; 3:19).

When we speak of "truth," therefore, we assume the poverty of the world's wisdom. It (the wisdom of the world) is incapable of diagnosing real human need, or discovering the remedy so sorely needed. Conversely, truth originates with, and leads to, the "God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." For this reason, it is completely adequate for the human condition.

PRAYER POINT: Father, I long for Your truth. In Jesus' name, open my eyes to behold it, and them embrace it as for eternity.
