GOD'S NATURE REVEALED IN CREATION

"The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard." (Psalm 19:1-3, NKJV)

Devotion 1 of 6

INTRODUCTION

You have probably heard about ecology. It is something that is in the news nearly every day. Politicians talk about it, and special groups crusade for it. The preservation of nature, or "ecology," has become a critical issue. Animal rights, the protection of forests, water purification, and watching the O-zone, are presented as the momentous issues of the time. It is not right to be wasteful with natural resources, or to pollute them to the harm of our fellow man.

Having said that, however, nature is not to be the focus, or center, of our attention. Nature has something to say to us about God, and it is to our eternal advantage to listen to its message. It is better to be able to hear what nature is saying, than to make a god of it. The purpose of this series is to help us hear the consistent and powerful testimony of creation, or "nature." It is best heard with our hearts and conscience.

God Speaks on the Matter

The ultimate word on any subject is God's Word--what He has said! If He has not spoken on the matter, there is room for human opinion. However, such things cannot be assigned a high degree of importance. If there is room for opinion, that opinion cannot be forced upon another person. Every person, in such a case, has a right to their own opinion. If, however, God has spoken on a subject, it is, because of that word, an important issue. On such issues, there is no room for human opinion. We either believe what God has said, or disbelieve it. If we believe that word, God will bless us. If we choose to disbelieve it, He will judge us.

This series of devotions will focus on what God has said about creation, and what creation testifies of God. I affirm that apart from the Living God and His purpose, creation in its entirety is inconsequential and meaningless.

PRAYER POINT: Father, in the name of Jesus, grant me grace to behold Your in all that You have made, and not be distracted the domination of lesser things.
