WHY SIN IS UNREASONABLE

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" (Romans 6:1-2)

Devotion 23 of 23

CONCLUSION

If we could speak to the sinners of old time, they would testify of the unreasonableness of sin. Eve would tell you that it was truly unreasonable to eat what seemed to be good and would bring advantage. Cain would confirm that the sin of envy and hatred is unreasonable, even though it did not appear so when he rose up against his righteous brother Abel. Moses would testify of the unreasonableness of simply striking a rock when God said to speak to it. Aachan would tell us that coveting forbidden things, even though they were going to be destroyed, was totally unreasonable. And what of David? Would he not testify to the unreasonableness of lingering on a roof top when he should have been at war? He would tell you of the foolishness of coveting another man's wife, and carrying through with the desire. Ananias and Sapphira would confirm the unreasonableness of misrepresenting what was given to God.

With perfect consistency, the entire human race will rise in the judgment and acknowledge sin was foolish. For some, it will be an introduction to everlasting exclusion from the face of the Father. For others, it will be an acknowledgment that God is true, and will be confessed to their own salvation. They were brought to that conclusion while yet in the body, and chose to abandon sin rather than pursue it.

When you are tempted to imagine that sin is reasonable, or that it can be justified, resist the devil! It is NEVER to your advantage to sin, and it is ALWAYS to your advantage not to sin! Think of the impact of sin upon your God. Meditate upon what it did to Jesus. Think of the Scriptural record of sinners, and of the sorrows they heaped to themselves. Contemplate the perpetrator of all sin, and his objectives for you. Then put on the whole armor of God, and stand against the wiles of the devil. Sin IS unreasonable!

PRAYER POINT: Father, I thank You in Jesus' name for delivering me from sin. Help me to maintain the persuasion of its unreasonableness.
