NEWNESS OF LIFE

"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin" (Rom 6:4-6)

Devotion 11 of 11

CONCLUSION

As we embark upon the rest of our life, it is good that we covenant with each other to "walk in the newness of life." Seek the higher view, and walk in the loftier climes. Jesus has brought an end to the old order, so it is never right to walk in it, or be dominated by it. He has opened the way to heaven, so it is never wrong or unreasonable to walk in it. In fact, it is sinful and reprehensible NOT to walk in this way. It is true that "the days are evil" (Eph 5:16). This is not a time to be spiritually weak and indecisive. It is a time to be "strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might" (Eph 6:10). The "coming of the Lord" is drawing near (James 5:8), and the Judge is standing at the door (James 5:9). I urge you to "walk in the light, as He is in the light" (1 John 1:7).

You will be honored by God in the effort

This is a new day, with a new covenant, and new life. God will not recognize the old order. Jesus has taken it away, and it is not acceptable to the Lord. Those who attempt to serve God in the flesh do so in vain. Equally true, every effort to serve the Lord on the basis of a law principle is futile. That also belongs to the old order that has been obviated by the death of Christ.

There is new life in Christ, and it is the only atmosphere in which acceptable service may be rendered to God. The foundation for your participation has been accomplished by Jesus. The Holy Spirit will strengthen your efforts to please the Lord. No wonder it is written, "your labor is not vain in the Lord" (1 Cor. 15:58). If you extend yourself to live in the newness of life, God will not be ashamed to be called your God. He will also extend Himself, so to speak, to bless you. Now, lift up your head and live in hope!

PRAYER POINT: Father, in the name of Christ Jesus, give me sensitivity to Your direction as I seek to walk in the newness of life.
