WATER TURNED TO WINE

"When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now."(John 2:9-10)

The occasion was the very first miracle performed by our Lord Jesus (John 2:11). He and His disciples had been invited to a wedding feast in Cana of Galilee. It is always good to invite the Lord to festive occasions. During the course of the feast, "they ran out of wine." The mother of Jesus quickly apprized Him of the situation. Having endured a mild rebuke, she told the servants, "Whatever He says to you, do it."

The Lord worked His first miracle in a most extraordinary way. In a sense, it was not public. First, the Lord did not replenish the vessels that held the original wine. Second, the water used for cleansing, or washing the hands, was used. Third, the water pots were filled up "to the brim." He did not place His hand on the pots, like He did on blind men and lepers. He did not speak to the pots as He did to the storm, sea, and fig tree. He simply told the servants, "Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast." You will remember the occasion. After tasting the wine, the master of the feast called the bridegroom and said, "You have kept the good wine until now!" That, he acknowledged, was not the usual manner.

Concerning this extraordinary wine, we are told the master of the feast "did not know where it came from." However, "the servants who had drawn the water knew." What wonderful Kingdom insights can be seen in this occasion. The miracle set the tone for coming things.

When the things that satisfy our souls appear to run out, we need not despair. The Lord can replenish our supply with even better things.

When you invite Jesus into what you are doing, you will always be the better for it.

No matter how common the Lord's directions may seem, they always will bring good things to us.

The Lord can take the ordinary things of life, and turn them into extraordinary things–like turning plain water into satisfying wine.

When you fill your heart as the Lord directs, you will be able to draw out of it with great satisfaction.

Those who are involved in filling the vessels will know what occurred when they were blessed.

If you will tell Jesus when you have needs, instead of trying to meet them yourself, He will bless you.

Common vessels can become valuable containers.
