COMPREHENDING THE MAGNITUDE

"That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God." (Ephesians 3:17-19)

THE ABILITY TO COMPREHEND

" . . . that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints . . . "

Here is a very wonderful truth. The Divine objective is not simply to make you strong, although that surely does take place. God's ultimate purpose is not satisfied when Christ dwells in your heart by faith. Even your rooting and grounding is not the ultimate aim. All of these are appointed means to an end. God strengthens you with might in your inner man by His Holy Spirit, in order that Christ may dwell within you. Christ dwells within your heart by faith so you can be rooted and grounded in love. All of this is necessary for your comprehension, along with "all saints." In other words, this is a common benefit God has provided for all of His people.

See, God has something for you to understand--something He wants you to see. It is a large vision, requiring strength and stability. You will never be able to comprehend it by living in the flesh, seeking your own way, and being wed to the world. The lower our vision, the further we are from the goal -- God's appointed goal -- and the less apt we are to see it.

The desire of the Lord is that you "may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fulness of God" (Eph 3:18-19). That is an exceedingly large objective! What is to be comprehended actually transcends comprehension, and what is to be known goes far beyond knowledge.  To many, these expressions mean it is actually impossible for the matter in question to be known. Ah, child of God, this is not the case. Remember to put God into the scenario, with whom all things ARE possible.

What is to be comprehended extends beyond the reach of nature. The human intellect cannot probe into the area that houses these marvelous realities. Yet, men and woman are called to perceive them. It is no wonder Divine strength is required!

Notice this is for "all saints." It is not a select few, or the clergy, or the leaders! It is for "all saints." Two things are requisite for involvement in the blessing. First, there must be a DESIRE to obtain what God has for "all saints." Second, the individual must be ABLE to receive it. I realize that you are involved in both processes. You are part of the processes of being willing, and able. However, God is also part of the process--in fact, His part is the fundamental part!

What good news we have for those desiring the blessing. "So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for IT IS GOD who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure" (Phil 2:12-13).

Not only are these things beyond the grasp of our natural capacities, they extend further than ordinary spiritual capacity--that is why Paul prayed for the Ephesians. Such wonderful benefits cannot be appropriated by the mediocre and average. To be made equal to the blessing, and able to flourish in the courts of the Lord, we must be elevated above the ordinary and mundane! That is precisely why this prayer is recorded. It confirms to our heart that God has, in salvation, made provision for us to be elevated to such lofty realms! There, the marvelous extent of God's love for us, and the greatness of His salvation, can be "comprehended" and "known" to a degree that is staggering to consider.

PRAYER POINT: Father, thank You for making provision for me to comprehend the incomprehensible!
