LEAVING THE FIRST PRINCIPLES

"Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits."  (Hebrews 6:1-4, NKJV).

CONCLUSION TO SERIES

Let it be clear to every soul, spiritual juvenility is fraught with danger. Simplistic views of God, Christ, and the glories of the world to come are overrated in our world. People who are regularly subjected to spiritual froth are not to be content with such a situation. Preachers and teachers that dwell upon "the principles of the doctrine of Christ," regardless of their seeming sincerity, have thrust us into jeopardy. They have made it more difficult for us to overcome the devil, run the race, and obtain the promises of God. They are pushing us closer to the world and further from heaven.

Those who serve up a regular diet of milk are not our friends, and they are not God's ministers. Our safety is found in our progression toward glory. As we make advancement into the holy of holies, into the very presence of God, we come into the safety zone. We are only as safe as our faith is strong--and faith cannot be made strong by continually dwelling upon "the principles of the doctrine of Christ."

The tragic irony of this situation is that many of God's people are not even being subjected to the "principles." They are hearing about world issues, given humorous anecdotes, and receiving pep talks to pump life into a gasping organization. What will be said of such activities at the judgment seat of Christ? -- for they will be brought up in that great and notable day!

I plead with you to be up and growing "in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."  "Set your affection on things above, and not on things on the earth" (Col 3:1-4)! See to it that, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust, you do not come short of glory! Do not be naive. You are not in heaven yet, and you must not address life in Christ as though you were.

Let me assure you that everything required for your growth in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ comes with God's "great salvation." He has graciously given us "all things that pertain to life and godliness" (2 Pet 1:3). Jesus is ever living to make intercession for you (Heb 7:25). You have been given the Holy Spirit who will lead you in putting to death the deeds of the body (Rom 8:13). When you do not know what to pray for as you ought, He will take up the cause for you, making intercession for you (Rom 8:26-27). As your love for God advances, you will become more persuaded that God is working all things together for Your good. As the King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus will subdue your enemies, and marshal the heavenly hosts to minister to you as you run the race from earth to glory.

There is no reason why you cannot grow, moving from one stage of glory unto another, even as by the Holy Spirit (2 Cor 3:18). But if you insist on remaining juvenile. feeding only on the things that have to do with beginnings, and with earthly things and relationships, you will cut yourself off from Divine resources. Jesus has descended as low as ever He will. From this point on, He is bringing you up -- to glory.  Seek those things that contribute to your growth in Him. Feed your soul, and do not neglect it. Insist on receiving something of substance from those who lead you. Your efforts will be undergirded by the Lord of heaven.

PRAYER POINT: Father, thank You for providing what I need to grow. In the name of Jesus, help me to see more clearly the means by which You have ordained growth. Give me boldness to turn away from those who linger near the shore, and strengthen me to launch out into the deep where You want me.
