LONG LAY I

~ Written upon the request of Brother Muqaddam Zia, Pakistan ~

Long lay I in my dungeon of sin
Dank was the darkness
No light did shine in
My day were so long, and lonely and grim
No light in my soul shone in

Long lay I there in my sin and my guilt
Laying in filth
My spirit did wilt
So long had I lived with unbearable guilt
Then some light in my soul did shine in

Down in a stable, so rough and so crude
Born of a virgin
Mild her mood
A baby named Jesus, The Light of the World
Was the light in my soul that shone in

Born with the seed of Abraham blessed
He came down to earth
But not as her guest
Afflicted and scorned with no place to rest
The Light of the World shone in.
